The Healthy/Wealthy Link

As I have started to think about my plan to become healthy, wealthy and wise....I am starting to realize that by getting healthier I may in the mean time get....wealthier.  How you ask...well for starters I have decided to try to make as much stuff from scratch as possible to avoid any preservatives for myself or family as well as leaving out extra uneeded sugar and salt.  I have started very small mind you but, it is a start.  I made about 2 dozen homemade blueberry oatmeal muffins and stuck in the freezer (with added flax seed).  I made ranch dressing from light sour cream and the dry ranch packet (ok yes that is still a "package of preservatives" but it is a start), tonight I made my taco seasoning from spices in my cupboard and I have to tell you it was amazing.  Sunday I made a great recipe shared  by a friend called "dirty quinoa" and it made it through 4 meals for myself and 3 meals for my family.  Currently, I have homemade granola  in the oven which smells amazing.  By doing all of this I am saving money not buying the prepackaged/conveniant items and eating healthier.  I know this is an old concept for some of you but for me it is the start of an awakening and I am really excited to see how far I can take it.

**you can add anything in you would like as well - I have added in kidney beans (that is what I had on hand) and topped it with some light sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese.  Our friends had also put diced tomatoes in there.

Next up, I am going to make a Chicken Tortilla soup for lunches.  Stay tuned.
